Lakshman Reka in party and politics

OVER A CUP OF COFFEE - LAKSHMAN REKA IN PARTY AND POLITICS

India by opting for a democratic society has also gone in for the adult franchise and in the early days after independence was blessed with two major parties only.  As the years gone by, regionalism has taken an upper hand and in the last few decades except for 2014, people did not give even a simple majority both in Centre and State and made coalition a practice in governing.  Compromises have to be made by the single largest party both in its principles and policies to get themselves in power and sometimes totally give into the interest of the smaller parties. The NDA and BJP in particular should consider themselves fortunate that the people while exercising their franchise in the Central Elections of 2014, gave a clear majority and made the single largest party to have simple majority after long years.

Perhaps this has made lethargy to set in the ruling party and people started airing their views without even considering the parties interest and some controversial statements had to be disowned by the party.  First the party must accept that it has changed its stand on several counts from what they were openly advocating prior to the elections.  Hence the difficulties within the party and party so for has done well to contain some of the controversies at the right time.

Gopu and Shyam who met over a cup of coffee were discussing this aspect of a party coming to power facing difficulties time and again against a hostile Mass Social Media.  The party has to adapt to the new situation with the increase and multiplicity of the channels that work in MSM and properly groom their party spokesperson and guide them and in constant interactions with them to apprise correctly on debates in mass media said Gopu.  He also felt that the spokespersons have even failed to bring a statistics of their time usurped by others due to constant disruptions in the debates.

With the advent of the Social Media playing a major part and which the ruling party enjoyed to come back to power in 2014, whether a clear assigned task given to anyone connected with the party seems to be absent said Shyam for this.  He felt party policies first spelt out only can be discussed in SM platform. Any new interactions in Facebook or Twitter has to be discussed in Party platform within a fortnight and either agreement or disagreement of the party must be conveyed to the individuals who tweet on these subjects opined Shyam.  There is no meaning allowing interactions to reach a level of creating problems to party and its functioning.

Responsibility to adhere to the party lines lie on every party leader taken to SM and MSM.  These forums cannot be a way of expressing ones views on any subject pertaining to the party and in essence what has not been discussed within the party cannot be expressed in these forums to make party leaders/cadres to fall in line.  When one states Party is above everything, then party forum must be opened for free and frank discussions and once an official line is taken, this should be echoed by everyone.

Atleast in the RBI governor issue, this does not appear to be the case said Gopu and healthy discussions within the party has not been held whether to continue with the Governor or a new incumbent, for all to speak in one voice. If all contenders think that Party is above everything, then this should have been the case.  On the contrary, it is not going to serve the interest of anyone in the party to express open disagreements and SM/MSM being used for questioning as well as reply said Gopu.

When once you have not suggested a Lakshman Reka,  how anyone can be called as crossing it.  Even to know what is Lakshman Reka, the party has to first discuss and Shyam wondered whether the party at least in future will hear the opinions of various quarters within the party and come out in single voice.
